I am getting "AVG error, please enter the license number. There is no license number", then it wants me to close. AVG. How do I fix?

Answer by Stephen Prastman

If you are using the free version of AVG, then there is no need to input a license key. The software will automatically assign one based on the registration that you have to fill within the software. I know that AVG features a way to reactivate the software from its interface. Therefore, go to the Options menu and look for the activation section, then simply renew the activation if it expired.

Can't say the same if you're using the PRO version. Once the trial expires, it will prompt you to enter the serial number that needs to be purchased from the developers' website.

This application is requesting access to a protected item: C:\Program Files\AVG\Antivirus\AVGSvc.exe

Is it genuine? It wants a password though not sure what the password would be? Have tried clicking cancel, but it just flicks off then pops back up on the desktop screen. Really annoying having it sitting there all the time.

From what I see, the application requests access to a file that controls the service of the Antivirus. It's the application which starts the AVG Antivirus Free modules and can be accessed only at the system level, without the user interaction to prevent malware infection.

I recommend denying access because it's not normal for a random app to attempt to control the antivirus service.

The program looks nice, but I can't update it at all. When I right click the tray icon to update it, the program is in grey colors. What can I do?

Answer by The Jedi

Do you have a skin or theme installed that has changed some of your system colors? I use black a lot in my skins/themes, and some things it makes very hard to read. Also, you can always open the AVG user interface and update from there. Even with a skinned system, it shouldn't affect the readability of that.

There is an exclamation mark on the AVG symbol on my computer. I opened the box up and it said I was fully protected and I ran a complete computer scan which strangely only took 11 minutes but it said no threats found. I noticed the symbol just after I had looked at something which then came up as 'Threat blocked'. How do I get rid of the exclamation mark?

This seems to be just an AVG oddment. Try to manually update the antivirus. Open the control center and do the update.

In order to solve this issue, you need to uninstall your Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable with Add or Remote Programs feature and reboot your computer. Also remove the AVG antivirus using AVG Removal tool. Download and reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and AVG from Microsoft and AVG Technologies official web pages respectively and restart the computer. The error will disappear and you will be able to use the antivirus without any problems.

AVG android has flagged incoming password/logon verification text from a previously known site as "Suspicious". Why?

S
Answer by Sean Hill

It's possible that the website uses elements known and found in the malware embedding procedures or the website is a SCAM and tries to steal the information from your account. Either way, hover the link and then check to see if it's the original website that asks for credentials. In the address bar, next to the address there should be a lock. If there is no lock and the website is displaying the same information as the original one, then it shouldn't be trusted. Don't enter any passwords or vital information.

We had purchased a year membership for this antivirus. I have the license key. Can I put this on my son's computer at school with purchased license?

Stephen Prastman
Answer by Stephen Prastman

This is the free version of the product that can be installed on all the computers you have. If you want to upgrade, the serial key can be activated on one computer or on the number of computers specified in the licence agreement. If it's a single licence only, you can activate it on one computer. Try to contact AVG and let them know about this operation. They should provide all the information related to your licence key.

J
Answer by Julia Bocchetta

The answer is no because most of the released antivirus solutions will provide an initial scan while the installation is in progress. If you have any active infections, the initial scan will take care of them while the product is being installed.
